Is it normal to not know whether to report this guy or not...?

I know someone at college who takes drugs (weed and m-kat, plus others occasionally...) and then drives. He often drives to the next big city (with a car full of our mutual friends, who are younger than us, slightly - around 16-17) which is about 20 miles away, at 2 or 3 am to go to Uni parties. I know it's dangerous, and I wonder what to do next.... He's a bit of a creep anyway, and I would never get in a car with him even if he wasn't high, but I can't exactly tell our friends what they can and cannot do, but equally, I can't let him put them at risk... They use him for his car. I can't really talk to him about it.

Please vote on the poll and then comment!

You should definitely report him, he's putting people's lives at risk! 44
You should definitely NOT report him, it will mess his life up. 13
You should talk to him about it and see if he will change. 30

Well weed is one thing, the impairment from cannabis is pretty damn low, unless Im really stoned I can drive just fine, but then again Im an extremely safe driver for my age group to begin with. ;P

I actually had to look up m-kat, I hadnt heard about that shit before but if youre doing anything more than weed? DONT GET BEHIND THE WHEEL. Not worth the danger to yourself and others

      Agreed. And tell no one.
If this guy is just stoned, I don't see what the big deal is, but if he is drinking or doing other drugs AND he has a car full of minors, his ass needs to be reprimanded.

I work in security and I have called the cops for DUIs many times. I'd rather see one asshole go to jail than a family of 5 killed by some little shit who has no regard for the lives of others or for the kids in his car that lack the brain developement to make a logical decision as to whether or not their willing to put their lives at risk to have a few hours of drunk stupidity.

        brain damage isn't pretty too.

one of my college friends was on his way to a bright career when a careless driver stole it from him.

oddly enough i don't think drugs or alcohol were involved. just speed. but that chose to put his own desires first (getting someplace way too fast) and decided no one else mattered.

i wonder how my friend would be if he hasn't lost so much that night

I worked with a guy who was hit by a woman doing 60 mph in a school zone while he was a kid in elementary school crossing to get to school. He said his ribs were broken and it took months for him to fully recover. He told me that they took the woman to court where, when asked why she was speeding by the judge, she responded that she was late for a nail appointment.

She almost took a kid's life because she was late for a nail appointment. Studies have shown that speeding only really deducts a tiny percentage of commute time at best. You may not get caught speeding but if you speed and hit a pedestrian who was jaywalking, any legitimate defense you had is gone. I wonder if people realize that...

in my friend's case the driver was doing 70 in a 25 zone. delivering pizza.

and your statement on speeding is very true. i use to do 10 over on the highway which isn't out of line here. but i find that dropping to only 5 over gets me there just as fast and ... my gas is lasting a bit longer too.

Yup, found myself doing the same especially since gas is $4.35 here now. I live in San Diego so doing 75-80 isn't exactly out of line here v.v

What he does is his decision. Weed isn't much of a danger when driving, unless you're SERIOUSLY stoned. The likelihood of him hurting someone is much lower than the crap he'll get put through if you tell anyone. Plus, it's not really your business.

"his decision" =/= "right to drive under the influence"

if he gets in trouble... too bad. He chose that path, let him pay the price.

JUuuust talk to your friends... Maybe you can be a positive influence and they will hear you out.. If not, you cant control life.. Do what you have to do for yourself.

Sure there are those who will try to stomp on you but... driving under the influence of drugs is bad, no matter whose feelings you hurt.

Sure he'll be angry that you stopped his fun and he'll blame you. But hey he should be making adult decisions anyway. I mean it's like when the cops arrest criminals... criminals always blame the cops even though it's their own decisions that led them to that point.

Thank you everyone, I'm pretty sure I made the right choice now :) Especially since he actually takes most drugs, I recently found out... :/
