Is it normal to not know what to say to girls when i approach them?

I've always had trouble approaching girls I'm attracted to. Now that I'm a college sophomore, I want to change that. As far as getting the nerve to do it, I know that's entirely on me. But I'm hoping somebody (guys and girls) has any advice on what to say to girls as far as introducing myself, how to start a good conversation, and at what point I should ask her for her number. [Please no corny pick-up line suggestions. I'm really looking for some original ideas here that have either worked for you in the past or for people you know.] Thanks.

    I think i can help you. If you see a girl carrying some books on her or something you smile at her and say "You need some help with that?" And if she says yes than take her book and calmly ask her for her name. Then you present urself and ask her some other things and that will eventually lead to a conv. If at first she says no, then just normally walk away and try some other day. Dont be offering her help every time u see her that would scare her. Hope i kinda helped

    Remember that girls are human. There aren't any special tricks or pick-up lines. Just treat them like a fellow person, like you'd treat a friend.

    Girls who are bitches and expect you to treat them like godesses aren't worth you're time.

    Dude I'm a pimp no joke! But I'm not afraid to get rejected...talk to every girl u find sexy and 1-100 somebody is gonna wanna get with u..dress clean, wear nice clothes, be confident...don't be shy... Say random things...try an be funny... Ask them ?? About them...best place to meet a girl is school, club, party, work, even church?! But don't be over board...read their body language...

    Here's a great pick up line at the bar ... come up behind them put your hands on their shoulders and say "i got you...just relax". Works every time
