Sometimes when i'm talking to someone (it dosent matter their age) and they tell me something/tell a joke, I just smile, laugh, and look away or just say ya and the conversation stops. It happens alot for me and I just don't know what to say. Does this happen to anyone also?

I have the opposite problem. I just can't shut the f**k up. I meet a lot of people that react like you (probably because I say a lot of weird and random things). It dosesn't bother me much though.
I guess sometimes a conversation is just over and in this situation you could maybe change the subject or just go do something else.
Another help in those awkward silences is to just say what's on your mind. Like: "I really don't now what to say right now". You might get a laugh or even start a new talk about talking.
But maybe you just are a listener. That's a great thing. If you pull it off right you can get people to talk way more then you. If you just keep asking questions about the things they say and be interested.
Yeah sometimes your mind goes blank also some people talk to about things that dont intrest you and thats why you smile and day yeah just being polite.
