Is it normal to not have sympathy?

I am going to be dead honest, I rarely have sympathy for people. When it comes to children though, mt heart shreds to peices, but when it comes to people older, I seriously have very little sympathy and I only have it for like the 5 closest people to me. My bfs sister had a miscarriage and everyone was freaking out and in my head I'm thinking, wtf...this happens all the time. You're not important, get over it. I really am a sweet girl (21, btw) I just very very rarely feel bad for people.

Talk to a psychiatrist about it. They'll be able to evaluate and possibly diagnose you, and then you can consider treatment. If you don't know if you want treatment, don't worry. They can't force you if you don't want it.

Watch the first 15 minutes of Pixar's UP and tell me what your heart felt.

By this statement, I don't think you're heartless. I think you just have difficulty understanding other's emotions. I'm sure if your bf sister spent just half an hour explaining what it was like for her to have a miscarriage you would have sympathy.

Also, I don't understand why miscarriages are so tragic for people. Just get on the horse and try again. Making babies is not hard.

Women often bond with the baby during pregnancy. If you're emotionally attached to having THIS child, and you've prepared for it, it's really difficult if you miscarry.

You have no obligation to have sympathy for anybody else. In the longrun, the only person that matters is YOU. We are all just animals living on this planet. Bad shit happens to everybody. No big deal.

Understandable. Adults aren't innocent and they make choices for themselves, unlike children.

Being aware is half the battle. A phsychologist can help with ways to cope. Its just a different view of life. If you can identify a problem you can at least learn to adapt.

    I can understand.
Children are innocent, but when it comes to adults, in the case when their trouble was brought on by their own actions (natural consequences of mistakes) I'm kind of like... what did you expect?

This doesn't sound like it's just when adults are dealing with the consequences of their own actions, though. It sounds like it's almost always.

I think some people just don't. You can't force it or anything.
