Is it normal to not have real-life aspirations?

I used to have lots of dreams as a child, but now I just live in tv shows and movies and the rest of my life I just take day by day. I don't do anything and because of all the restrictions I have in my lifestyle due to family and religion. I feel like it's just not worth the trouble. So I just don't even care enough about anything to dream and imagine reaching anything anymore.

I can't work or live independently due to my mental health problems. Even though there's a part of me that feels "normal" and wants to *be* normal, the reality is that I can never push myself beyond my limits or I suffer breakdowns.

That being said, I don't have any goals in life either. My whole life revolves around whatever fictional characters I happen to be obsessing over at a given time. That, and surfing the internet, exercising, and visiting with family.

I know I probably sound like the world's biggest loser, but I'm actually pretty content with my life. I love routine and if my life could stay this way till I dropped dead, I'd die happy. Not everybody needs to save the world in order to have a meaningful life.

Is it possible for you to become independent of your family (financially, emotionally etc.)? Would you be happier if you left your religion behind?

I would consider changing your answer to both of those questions to "yes", and then act on it.

EDIT: As a side-note, I'm sure doing nothing but watching TV all day isn't making God or your family happy, either. I'm sure they'd rather you followed your dreams than do nothing at all.

Is it your family/your family's religion thats restricting you? Or your family and your religion? Whatever it is, you're doing the smart thing by not stirring up trouble. I think it's normal. But I do implore you to search for a deeper meaning. Tv shows and movies are entertaining and distracting, but they get mind numbing after a while.

Sounds like you are depressed, perhaps. Unless you get true enjoyment from being a slacker. If you're depressed, see a doctor.

Having goals in life is very important. Don't let ur family tie you down. It's your life. You can do whatever u want with it! Take a minute to write down some things you really want to do, then next them, write down how u can. It helps me!

Don't you sound like the world's biggest loser!
If you blame your religion and family for your problems, then you have little chance for a good life.
    It's YOUR life; take control.
