Is it normal to not have friends if i just started college?

I just moved to The States one month ago for college .Back in my home country in Asia , I have tons of friends and I was pretty much the happy go lucky girl . But over here, nobody seems to be interested in making friends with me . I have started class for a week now . It's going to be the 2nd week . During orientation I met some people . I tried asking them out if they wanna hang out but they all says their lack of money and they have something up .
Then when I started class , I tried to make friends but everyone seems to not be interested . I see everyone hanging out and have their own friends and have lunch together . I feel upset and lonely .
Because I have no one to hangout with , I come home after class do my homework and that's about it . Fridays and Saturdays and Sundays I'm always alone at home . Is it normal I don't have friends in college ?

    normal I guess. i bet there are lots of asians in your class as well, so you have something common there.

    you should try joining a club, and study groups too.

    Sounds like highschool D: i suck at making friends because i try too hard and it becomes a focus ..

    ya its normal. You will make friends trust me. Have you tried joing a sorority.

    I'm going through the same exact thing. Starting a new school is hard, and making friends is tough if you're shy, like me. It'll take time but don't let it bum you out.

    Sure. I just started school too and though I have some acquaintances there who are very nice to me, I haven't hung out with anyone for more than 10 mins before or after class. Being in college is so much different than HS, the people there are adults with a lot more going on in their lives, and if they don't have a job they probably feel like they wouldn't be much fun to hang out with, or don't want to burden you with the bill. Just give yourself some time, maybe join a couple of the clubs. Do anything you can to meet as many people as possible.
