Is it normal to not go in unless invited
I have always done this. People think its odd when I do. I wont follow anyone in unless specifically invited. Even if they expect me to follow them. I kind of just wait at the door.

thats just good manners and a sign of respect towards the other person. im like this as well.
Of course! I won't go to someone's place unless I was invited. It is very rude and impolite. If that person really wants you there, he or she will invite you!
Depends on why you're following them in.
If they've already invited you then you shouldn't have to ask each time you're at the threshold.
although at the same time i wouldn't personally fault you for wanting to be polite either
I thought you meant for a party. I could understand that... but waiting at the door? Are you a vampire?
Its fine if you're at a formal place or the people are not so close to you as in that case the chance is greater that they will get annoyed and that they don't want you to join in. But if you're with close friends or family I guess its odd to wait for the invitation every time. while I know at some occasions its awkward when you don't even want ya friends to take part or come to any specific place that happens rarely and in most cases its like you're just suppose to be together and have great time.
I usually shart myself but I know they like me if they smell it and still invite me in
