Is it normal to not get offended by being called a hipster?

I don't know how the term 'hipster' ever became an insult, but people try to use it on me all the time, and it doesn't insult me one bit. It actually boosts my confidence sometimes because they are making themselves appear inferior to me. The reason I feel this way is because I see how hard people try to piss me off with their so-called insults, which don't actually insult me, and I don't have to do anything but exist to piss them off. They get so bent out of shape and it makes me laugh. I'm not going to stop liking the things I like, and I'm not going to stop having my own opinions. I don't know what will ever make them realize that I don't care what they say. As long as I'm happy doing what I'm doing, I have no reason to change it.

well if you're not bothered by it, why the hell did you take the time to write about it on here? why don't you just "laugh" it off like you say you do?

Just wanted to know if anyone else felt the same way...honestly the people who try to insult me are dead to me. They are like the scum on the bottom of my shoe. And so are you!

Because hipster isn't an insult, it a label. Some other labels are emos, guidos, goths, or valley girls. If you don't like guidos and you see one walking around you're going to let out a "Oh great it's a guido, harrumph" If a person sees a hipster when they don't like them they' give "Ugh, a hipster is here." It's a label not an insult.

I don't like hipsters because they tend to have this undeserved attitude of superiority, kinda like yours.

I would say that its not normal to not be offended by this because its my understanding that basically a hipster is one that is over educated and under employed, basically a lazy fart with a liberal arts education that is afraid of real work and only wants to do something "creative" for a living like art, music, etc. To which I suggest shave that fuzzy beard, get a hair cut and get a real job like everybody else !

Good for you. Seeing that I have a tendency to be extremely sensitive, I would take it as a insult especially, since I can't stand them.

I feel that I'm perceived as a hipster, but I never get called one. That's good enough for me.

I don't know how the term became an insult, but it is nowadays. I guess I am one, but in this day and age, aren't we all?

Hipster is a slang term that first appeared in the 1940s, and was revived in the 1990s and 2000s often to describe types of young, recently-settled urban middle class adults and older teenagers with interests in non-mainstream fashion and culture, particularly alternative music, indie rock, independent film, magazines such as Vice and Clash, and websites like Pitchfork Media.[1] In some contexts, hipsters are also referred to as scenesters.

    Suck it, stupid people.
