Is it normal to not follow fashion?

I choose not to follow mainstream fashion, because I think it's trashy. I dislike the 'throwaway' culture, and poor quality junk. The same goes for piercings and dying hair. I seem to have the mentality of a conservative adult even though I'm an 18 year old guy.

I prefer to look healthy, not trendy by taking care of my skin/teeth and wear high quality clothes (I have a few items that last a long time, and goes with anything) I usually wear chinos, with a Gant t-shirt etc. I usually stick to a monochrome outfit with some navy/brown here and there.

is it normal to go against the crowd and dress smartly, so it brings out my best feature (face) and appear classy?

Well, you've described your reasons well enough. I personally think the most important things are to wear clothes you feel comfortable in and like. I imagine this is what you're doing.

I'm the same, in that I pay very little attention to trends. Partially because I don't find most of them interesting, and because I find it silly to invest in something that in two weeks will be like, so totally last season! I just dress casual, which I think in itself isn't necessarily trendy but still popular. Like jeans and T-shirts. Most people have those.

Also, you remind me very much of a friend, so you aren't alone! Wear what you want; nobody cares.

I wear a stick in my arse. Even when it becomes fashionable to wear a stick in one's arse, I won't be following fashion, it will be following me.

    Sticks at the ready, people.

Taking care of your skin is a turn on, for real. So is wearing nice clothes.

I don't really know anyone who pays attention to fashion trends consciously. I think everyone just dresses how they feel good. For many people feeling good requires looking good, and looking good is informed to some extent by the trends of the day whether you do it consciously or not.
