Is it normal to not feel sorrow with people going through grief?

First off I want to say I do have a heart. My Mom died in my very early teenage years suddenly and then a year after that my Grandma died from being ill. Now since then when a friend etc has someone pass away in their life I don't understand them grieving over it. I feel selfish for thinking like this because I know it's not right. I'm just trying to figure out if other people having been through something similar deal with this as well :/

I dont think you have truely dealt with your hardships. I think that if you were being honest with yourself, you are probably in a lot of pain. This pain most likely, controls parts of your life that you arent even aware of.

Thank you everyone who replied. I'm thinking it must be an emotional block I have that is keeping me from grieving in general. Thank you again.

It depends how close you were to them. If you weren't close it's totally normal not to feel grief when they die. If you were close, then maybe it is as the other commenters have said that you're masking your grief somehow.

Maybe you are doing this to hide your own pain.
