Is it normal to not be interested with any kind of occupation?

I am going to start university next year, but i still didn't decide to what i am going to study and do rest of my life. It is not that I don't want to work, but I am simply not interested with any of the professions. Is it normal to feel this way? What do you think is the best to do in this situation? What do you suggest?

Welcome to the club. I understand that because you are going to a university that you want to do that specific subject the rest of your life, however, that isn't always the case. If you cant make up your mind, hold off on college until you know. Or, if you must go next year, from now until then, study all the classes that, even some-what, sound interesting, narrow your options down, and pick the most benefial to your own well-being, not necessarily money. At times, one class will lead you to a particular job and that job could potentially lead to another job, that isn't even very relevant to your major. Sometimes life throws curve balls. So prepare the best you can for all situations. Good luck in school!!

Don't do what I did and just take something you find mildly interesting. you end up totally sick of it by the time you get your degree, and then you have no interest in that field, along with a big pile of student debt.

Explore life a little bit first. Stop and do something you love for a while, especially since you're still young and can make the most of those experiences. After enjoying some life experience you'll be full of inspiration and ideas.

My thing I love is travel. unfortunately I went to school first. Then I traveled. While traveling I discovered something I'd really love to do, but now I can't really study that, because my time and money was wasted on school for something I don't actually care much about.

Also (I'm reffering to the U.S.A's system) a lot of time/money is wasted on 'pre-req' classes in uni. You can always take basic pre-reqs at any college or community college, and it will save you loads on university, while also giving you time to consider your eventual field of study. Look at what courses they would require you as basic prerequisites for... EVERYTHING... yea... sticker shock for basic math or english credits, that you probably already know, and you could have gotten anywhere and then transferred.

*note I had a high GPA and high SATs and I thought college was for people of lower intelligence. Actually, it's a very smart way to manage your money, as long as you make sure the classes are compatible with whatever uni you'd switch to.

I plan on going into Automotive engineering and design. I have always have been fascinated with cars,(I always love visiting my neighbors 20 acre classic (All-Mopar) car collection.)also, i have many notebooks with designs, and ideas to implement on future vehicles.

i would just take a wide variety of classes and see if any of them catch your attention. most of the time classes really bore me and i don't realize i am interested in the subject until i do something in the real world that related to them. for example volunteering in foreign health clinic or building sculptures. i am never interested in things i am learning about second hand, only in things i am experiencing myself. sign up for more programs and see if you enjoy them- if so, find a class that relates.

It seems to me that there are less people who do know what they want to do than don't. Even my brother is thinking of changing majors, even though he's in the major he originally wanted. most people change majors and career paths in life. Most don't even stick to the same job. some colleges have a somewhat general degree plan that allows you to get the basic necessities and allow room for classes that interest you. I would see what your university has to offer, and change it when you have a better idea of what you want to do. if possible, have more that one major.
