Is it normal to not be able to think and talk at the same time?

Often when I am talking to people my mind will be completely blank. It's as if the sentence I am about to say is loaded into my brain, then everything else shuts down while I am talking, like my brain can't run thoughts and speech at the same time.

It's frustrating because I see my friends and teachers thinking about what they are saying as they say it, and I feel like a retard when I speak four or five words at a time before having to stop to think about what to say next.

Don't worry, mate. We can't all be born with multicore processors.

Try a career in politics or religion.

I can think while I speak. While the thoughts relevant to the conversation take priority, I can think about other stuff too.

I didn't even know people had this problem. Maybe you just need some sort of mental exercise or memory training.
