I hate prescription remedies and I've tried a lot of them over 20 or 25 years of difficulty sleeping. They make me feel like crap the next day and even though I "slept" I don't feel rested. I've tried lots of supplements like Melatonin, Valerian, 5-HTP, Chamomile, Lemon Balm, and on and on, most haven't worked great for me, but the combos definitely work better than taking just melatonin. The more reputable companies definitely have a more effective product that can be found at a true health food store with knowledgeable help or Whole Foods, but not a DRUG STORE and NOT GNC. Vitamin Shoppe can be okay, but ONLY if you catch a truly knowledgeable clerk, and I steer away from their proprietary products. That being said, my most recent and successful sleep remedies, which HAVE worked for the first time in 20 years are Avipaxin, Kavinace and Thea-Naq. All can be found at high end health food stores, although some have to order them. I was turned on to these by a NaturePathic MD, and have been truly amazed at how well they work for me and my 80 year old mom. Fall asleep, stay asleep, AND feel rested! I would get advice and try them one at a time. They're expensive, but worth it, but you don't want to buy more than you need. Use of knowledge is power. Best to you.
Not being able to sleep is a very big problem, I do shift work because of this, because the only time I fall asleep with no effort is when I come home from the night shift. I know how you feel.
stop thinking about problems and you will fall asleep(out of experience it is much easier said than done) I wind up staying up all night, even when I turn off all my lights, silence my phone and no vibrate, because i think about stupid shit.
Dang i have the same exact problem!!! and highschool starts up again on monday SHITTTTT!
When you go to bed tired (as per normal), each time you start to think of something just put it out of your head.
Keep doing this type of letting go of your thoughts each time one pops in your head.
You'll find that even from the first night of doing this you'll quickly fall to sleep.
The issue is we tend to start thinking about things (the day's experiences, or anything) and our mind is just working too hard to fall to sleep. If you continually let go of these thoughts (and kind've think of nothing, but without thinking that!) you should be asleep by about the 10, or 15minute stage (assuming comfortable, don't need to go to the toilet, and you haven't been up playing the drums (or any type of physical exertion) just before going to bed!!)
Anyway give it a go. I did and it worked.
