Is it normal to not be able to sleep?

I can never sleep!! I could stare at the ceiling for hours and not fall asleep, even if I'm tired. I have to read a book till like 1 or 2 in the morning, and then I can sleep. But I have read all of my books(and I have quite a lot) and I've read them all 5 times or more. I've talked to my doctor, I've done everything she said to try. So I just accept the fact I have sleeping problems. Is this normal??

Very, very normal problem that many people suffer from. I personally have never had a problem sleeping, but I'm a really laid back person. Maybe you should just focus on relaxing while in bed, take deep breaths and just let your mind shut off.

Can you take medication? My husband gets sleeping pills and they work fine. If not, I've heard taking a bath or drinking Camomile tea helps with relaxation. Taking a few hits off a joint helps too.

Flipping heck, I have this bloody problem... I sleep 2-3 hrs a day... I'm exhausted whole day and when I want to sleep I can't... Any one knows what's wrong but recently I have known few men suffer from that... Is it common with men?

I have the same problem. I'm always so tired but as soon as my head hits the pillow, I'm wired.

Lately I've been getting into my personal sleeping position, closing my eyes, and imagining myself swimming under calm water or flying on a long plane ride in coach. Anything relaxing.

It takes about 10 minutes to an hour but it's better than lying awake for 2+ hours.

I have a similar problems. Taking on responsibilities early in the morning often helps me to get on a better sleep schedule. Also, I am told that hypnotherapy can help.
