Is it normal to not be able to do anything with a history degree??

My degree is in History. Am I stuck being a public school teacher for the rest of my working life? Is this the ONLY career option for me? I hate teaching! Thoughts?

I am having the same problem , my degree in special needs and I am teacher, my students are so cool ! But I hate my job and I feel the same way you do.
I tray every thing but nothing happened .
I am having a diploma in BA, and hoping that one day I am going to leave my job.
So why do not try to have a diploma or get back to collage.

Yes, I did the research beforehand. I wanted to teach, but I've changed quite a bit since college. I'll probably just go back for a higher degree.

History, really ? A fascinating subject, but didn't you research career opportunities before you picked your Major ? It seems like alot of people puck thier majors based on interest versus actual application to the end of gaining suitable employment. I blame our parents generation for force feeding us this "you can be anything you want when you grow up" crap ... All isn't lost though, you just have to get creative. Try research, maybe media, you could try becoming an author, real estate (can you imagine buying a house with a history and the realtor being able to tell you what the neighborhood was like 100 years ago, or why there's a balcony on the roof [widows walk]. There's also city/county/state/federal parks, they need historians (but may be titled as ranger or guide).
I'm sorry to say that you picked one of those fields that doesn't usually pay too well, but you can make the best of it if you can put the skills you learned in college to good use and don't let the title of your major dictate the field that you work in.

It really depends on how good of a school you attended and what your gpa was.

You could right history stories or text books. But really you could do like the unknown true stories of history.

You might look into a job involving research. I am a history major as well and professor's told me his wife has one too and that she does research for a company somewhere. As a history major I am sure you're excellent at researching and writing papers for people.
