Is it normal to never turn my tv off?

The TV never gets shut off, it's on 24/7. I need it on. I need it to eat. I need it to sleep. It is my best friend. It is my nightlight. It teaches me things. It takes me places. I love it. I have literally planned some parts of my life around TV. Not a lot, but some things.

If it's not on, I get upset and confused. There's been times that the power or cable has been interrupted overnight and my TV gets turned off, and I wake right up and can't go back to sleep until it's back on!

I also can't sleep if there's nothing good on. I can only fall asleep to stuff I like.

I get upset on weekends because the programming is always different. I like the weekdays because it's very structured.

I'm not saying I sit there and do nothing and just watch TV, I'm just saying it's always on. I go about my business, I mostly just listen to it during the day and then at night I watch it. I leave it on when I leave the house just because I like to hear the noise of it when I return home. I can hear it before I open the door. The light also comes in handy if I return late. I'm not a fan of lamps.

Is anyone else like this? IIN?

PS-I don't want to hear any bullshit about not sleeping well due to the noise and light, or getting a job, or getting a life, or any other "advice". I'm not looking to change anything, nothing's wrong. I just want to know if there's more people like me around.

    Electromagnetic overload, ouch!

My mom is like this. She says it keeps her company. Half the time she isn't even in the same room as the tv. It's incredibly wasteful. Yet she use to yell at me for leaving the light on in a room I wasn't in.

And I once had a roommate who couldn't sleep without the tv on. That was annoying. I don't understand how silence can be distracting. But for some reason it was my problem that I couldn't sleep with it on.

So yeah, there are a lot of people addicted to tv. You aren't alone.

I can't sleep without listening to audiobooks, even with medication. For me, in the silence, my thoughts race. Audiobooks give me something to lazily concentrate on, something for my mind to follow instead of filling up with thoughts that keep me awake.

My dreams are subject to outside influence and can create a lot of confusion if not chosen carefully. The noise doesn't help me turn my brain off. Since I grew up with it always in the background, I had to learn to tune it out. Sometimes it may look like I'm watching TV, but my head will be a million miles away. And generally, I don't want to distract my brain, I want to consciously slow it down. It takes practice and a good unplugging.

    I don't think it's normal.

One of my ex's had to have a tv on when I wasn't home, but she didn't keep it on when I was there. (I don't watch the idiotbox)...

But if it makes you happy -sure!

I find people who have their T.V. on 24/7 to be irritating when I visit them. Are you lonely? I once knew of a boy who was sixteen and orphaned and got to live in an apartment of his own who kept the T.V. on because it made him feel like he had people in his house. Evaluate your life and see what void this T.V. is filling for you.

Bet the power company has framed photos of their best customer, you. Personally, leaving a tv on that much drives me crazy. Dated a woman who left hers on all the time. I'd turn it off when we'd go somewhere from her place. She'd ask why I was turning it off, because we were "coming back tonight..not like we'll be gone for days"

If I fall asleep with it on, I wake up just to turn it off.

my Grandparents never turned off their tv, unless the whole family was going on vacation or something. I remember once as a kid, when I stayed over there, i fell asleep, and woke up at 5 am to "Dr Goldfoot and the Bikini machine". surprisingly, that tv lasted for 15 years before getting knocked out in a storm.

I don't do it... alldoe in my country is quite typical to allways have it on, at lunch, dinner, everything...

PLEASE turn it off!! You can start by listening to the radio, witch is a bit better... It's incredible how your entire life gets better without that shit.

Don't let companys and goberment fool you with their hypnotic weapon.

Promise it's normal. I have been that way my entire life. Food network is all I watch. I love it. It's Was my life until my boyfriend and I got a place together. Now I don't have to sleep with it on, but it's taken me a while to stop. But it's still always on other than that and it always will be and I never worry if it's normal bec it feels great to me :)
