Is it normal to never have had chicken pocks?

I have never ever had chicken pocks, even after my little brother had them, I tried getting them from him (eating out of the same yogurt with the same spoon, letting him cough in my face, etc) but I never got them. My dad never had them either. Is it normal?

I've never had them either, but my mom had them 3 times! I feel bad, but at least she won't get shingles. I might though......

For the most part, people don't get the chicken pox anymore now that there's a vaccination. Babies in this generation get them right after their born. This vaccine is still pretty recent though because I had the chicken pox when I was 4-5 years old. I'm 21 now. The good thing about it though, is if you DO catch the disease, after it's over you won't get it again!

My dad has been vaccinated against them. I've NEVER been vaccinated against them. I tried my hardest to get chicken pox because I know it'll be worse if I get them later on but I never managed. So if I don't get them when I have my little brother cough right in my face 1,000 times I kinda doubt I'll get them later. I'm not sure. Am I immune to them or something?

not getting chicken pox as a kid doesnt mean that you will get shingles as an adult. People who had chicken pox as a kid has just as much a chance of you of gettin shingles! I never got chicken pox even though every one else in my family had them at the same time!

Some people have a "natural immunity" which I think is just another way of say that they have a strong immune system. The best thing to do if haven't got it yet is to go to your GP and ask for the vaccination. That way you wont have to worry about it!

I've had chicken pox twice, once when I was 11 and second time when I was pregnant with my son( which was very dangerous, luckily I had already had them so the blood test said I was immune. The doctors were talking about terminating my pregnancy because he could have been born with birth defects).
I had shingles after the second time which can also be even more dangerous.
Hopefully you will never get them as not everyone does but it's better to get them while young.

  • Not everyone gets chicken pox, but.. If you don't get them as a child, or teen, that just means you'll get whats now called Shingles later on, which is a very dangerous illness.. = (

Maybe you were vaccinated and thus can't get them?

  • My father was the same, he never had them as a kid but he got them later in life (they're much worse if you get them as an adult). He was really nasty looking at the time, my brother actually thought he was a zombie when he saw him.
