Is it normal to never get over the awkwardness after a disagreement?

If someone pisses me off, my automatic reaction is to tell them that I don't like their behavior. Sometimes they just apologize, but when that happens I always feel awkward about having embarrassed them, or that I'm the one with the problem.

If they don't apologize, and explain how they feel, I can sometimes just accept it, and try to move on, but I still feel an awkwardness between us.

Sometimes, if they don't apologize and I can't accept their explanation, I just end up arguing with them. Then I usually completely cut them out of my life. I defriend them on FB, delete them from my cell phone, etc. Afterward I don't usually regret it.

But lately I've been wondering... I seem to have cut a lot of people out of my life. Is it normal to never get over the awkwardness of an argument? Or to end a friendship - sometimes of many years - over a disagreement?

It would depend on what the disagreement is about. Petty arguments are not worth ending a friendship, but if it's something serious they may need to be cut.

I know what you mean. One of my best friends and I used to argue a lot. A couple of times it came close to ending the friendship. Nowadays, we deal with it by shaking heads and then just changing the subject.
