Is it normal to never close the microwave oven door?

My mother has a very annoying habit: she never closes the door of the microwave oven, instead she takes a glass and puts it in front of the microwave door. She says that she does it because closing the door is too loud and she doesn't want to wake up anybody. At first she only did this at night, but now she does it all the time. I've told her to stop doing it, but she keeps doing it.

    I hate when someone uses the microwave and leave their food crap all over the inside instead of cleaning it, just lazy I tell ya!! Buy a lid will ya, oh this wasn't about that was it?.. LoL

    I don't think anyone's microwave will turn on unless the door is shut. There's a lateral thinking problem: How do you microwave your head without physically chopping it off and putting it in the microwave? This kind of assumes the door has to be closed in order to microwave something.

    The answer, by the way, is to cut a head-shaped hole in the door.

    my friend says that her dad religiously leaves the microwave door open after use. how annoying!

    Thats dangerous. :( they are supposed to not work unless the door is closed. She is exposing herself to dangerous amounts of microwave radiation. which can even make her body fluids boil if she stands close enough to it for the time.

      Also, she is irridating herself, and killing cells in her body. she is weakening herself. Tell her to stop this before she suffers permanent damage.

    Microwaves are so convenient, but there are drawbacks: all of them have annoying beep-timers and the door are loud when you close them. Ya, I think your mum is normal for adjusting her habits because the microwave is annoying. I doubt you can force her to change, so just accept it as one of those silly things she does.

    I thought Budthewise was gone.
