Is it normal to never be able to look people in the eyes?

Well, is it?

Usually it's difficult to look a person in the eye and lie. But for me, telling the TRUTH and looking a person in the eyes is downright impossible. From the scrutinizing eyes of my father, to the untrustworthy ones of my brother: you might as well ask me to jump into a pool of cockroaches - never!

  • I have the same problem but you have to do it anyway. It's important to do that during job interviews and work.

i always look people in the eye when i'm talking to or listening to them. i noticed that this makes a lot of people uncomfortable. sometimes i have to remind myself to look away every now and then!

Eye contact is one of the most sincere, even courageous acts. After all, tis been said, they are the windows to the soul. So, looking at the whole, you don't want to expose yourself (I don't mean physically---to all you sicko's). I remember a time when people would look me straight in the eyes when I spoke. I got very uncomfortable. Looking back, I was very insecure, and did not fancy the idea of letting anyone too close. That sounds like the bigger issue here.

Your just shy, not necessarily autistic.

Not being able to make eye contact is one of the features of people who are autistic. Maybe you should look into that. I'm not trying to be mean or anything - I've been diagnosed as being autistic so I'm just saying it's something to think about. :)
