Is it normal to move away from your family once you become an adult?

I was born and raised in the northeast, and we moved to the south when i started high school. now I'm in my 20s still living with my parents, and do not like it here. so I'm researching a place to move to (out west). just told my parents my plans and my mom got disappointed cause she thinks the 'normal' thing that family's do are stick together in one part of the country and live like that. now that I'm older, i want to live where i want to live. I'm not happy here. i would come visit and stuff. but I'm not going to change my mind, but what do most people do? do they live where they want or do they stick around where their parents live to be one big happy family?

BTW this isn't about going to a college in another state. just living somewhere else.

Yeah, normal. My family knows I'm moving to England when the time comes. I've done my time here and need to go home.
Everyone wants to leave the nest at some point. Some aren't as attached to family as others and want it sooner.

  • There are pros and cons to it.
The pros: your independence and living in a nicer part of your country.
The cons: it's expensive, you will eventually really miss your family, and it will be very costly for them to visit you and for you to visit them - although, this part won't matter as much until the day you get married and start a family.

  • Meh you should finish school first because you'll see that it's going to be hard to pay everything you need with a crappy minimum wage. This is why people today owe so much money at young age. Unless your parents are planning on paying you everything, it's a different story. I'd suck it up and stay there until I'd be done with my schooling, get a real job and then gtfo.
