Is it normal to miss my high school teacher this much?

Hey there, just to give context, I was held back in school so now I'm that awkward high school junior who is 18.

Basically last year I had one of the most influential teachers, who has inspired me to become a teacher myself someday. We had a really great student-teacher relationship and I look up to her as a mentor and teacher. She was always there for me to talk about anything that was on my mind and she showed she truly cared both in and outside of class.

This year, I no longer have this teacher and I miss her SO much. I think about it all the time and if I'm not depressed, I was close to it. She was kind of a mother figure to me and it makes me want to cry when I think about how she isn't my teacher anymore.

Is this normal? What do I do about it?

Teachers aren't mythical creatures - they are human. They often miss students they were fond of, as well. If you miss her, I don't see the trouble in catching her after class to ask to speak with her.

Explain that you appreciated her guidance in the past, and would like to see her from time to time to catch up and assess your situation and plans for the future. If she is amenable, you could see about setting a standing after-school weekly meeting, or some such arrangement.

Ask her if she can be a mentor to you, at the worst she will be flattered
