Is it normal to masturbate this way?

When I masturbate I've almost always done it this way most people take out their penis and move their hand up and down it to jack off. But what I do is put my hand in my pants and kind of hump my hand pushing and putting as much pressure on it as possible. I can't masturbate this way though when I'm already hard, masturbating the other way just doesn't do it for me so if I do release the pressure I usually have to wait until I'm not hard anymore.
