Is it normal to make it awkward before sex

I have recently (2 weeks but been meeting for over a year) got into a relationship and we have not moved on from a kiss, I think it's partly to do with how self conscious I am.. He is totally open and not shy one bit. We have been in the situation where it's nearly happened but I seem to make it awkward for myself.. Every other time i Have had sex its Had alcohol involved & I wont get naked.. Help! Any advice would be great :)

    Just be confident that he finds you attractive and that is why he is trying to go to the next step with you. If you still cannot be confident enough, turn the lights very low or off completely.
