Is it normal to make facial expressions when playing the piano?

  • Music is an art form.. To create art you need to "feel" what you are doing. By making expressions it shows you are feeling into what you are doing.

    I do too. It's because when you really get into the song, you start to feel it, and so you can't help it.

    I used to play but I have no idea if I made a face. Allot of performers twist their faces/bodies when they're playing instruments. Music can take allot out of you and cause many emotions. It's normal:)

    I was trying to remember if I did. It's a couple of years since I played (I miss it). I think I pulled my face at the difficult bits, like pursed my lips. And I looked a bit smarmy if I played something well. It's normal, I guess. Concert pianists seem to do it.
