Is it normal to love someone who doesn't exist?

Is it normal to be absolutely in LOVE with a cartoon character? I have the biggest attraction to Kenny McCormick from South Park, and I sometimes feel like my attractions and interests are eccentric compared to my friends; not to mention they laugh at me about it.
One of my guesses is that I just fear affection again. Therefore, I find affection in someone who can't hurt me.(I had a really bad experience with a "relationship". Although he is extremely amazing!

You're not the only one with that crush (unless it was you who made those other topics about him on here). Personally I don't get it since he's supposed to be like 8 years old, but he is cute. I have been attracted to so many fictional characters over my years, and never a real person, while it's not really normal I don't see a problem with it, as long as you're happy, and can accept reality as seperate from fantasy

It's totally normal. I'm in a similar situation. I'm obsessed with japanese actress Keiko Kitagawa. Yeah she's a real person and she's kept a blog on and off for the past 8 years but I can't say I know her personally, for all I know her true personality is totally different than how she presents herself. She is an actress.

You don't want to be hurt, a fictional character is incapable of hurting or rejecting you. It's your minds way of compensating for a lack of love in real life.
Sometimes I feel like I don't need anything else to be content. I can just admire from afar and never be rejected, with a false, superficial sense of 'love'. Like a drug it does feel good, however it is also leaves you with a lonely happiness in the end.

Its totally normal, I had a crush on Tow Mater from the Disney pixar movie cars (My user name pretty much gave it away) for 6 years straight. I really was upset for a long while when i found out in cars 2 that he was getting a girlfriend, but most of the time I didn't let that get to me. I still had a crush on him

I've felt like this before. Except it was with a girl from a novel, not a cartoon.

The book was called "The Astonishing Adventures of Fanboy and Gothgirl." After reading it I felt extremely depressed because I didn't know anyone like Gothgirl in real life. I wish I did though, and I highly recommend reading it.
