Is it normal to love objects tied to terrible suffering?

I love objects tied to eras and instances of great suffering, both historic and modern.

As for knowing the complete history of the object, sometimes it's necessary to me and sometimes I don't care to know much beyond the basics. It's not all about the story, it's mainly about the object...holding it, seeing it, owning it.....the story is secondary.

I don't like the thought of the suffering itself. I feel for the people who did or are suffering. I don't take it lightly.

I just love these objects. I can't get enough of them.

Examples:

hyperinflated currency

flags (communist, rebel, pirate, etc)

propaganda pamphlets, posters

crime scene photos

folk art from certain places/times, also prison art

shackles from slavery, ball & chain, any objects related to controlling/confining prisoners

war

segregation

I think you get the picture.

yeah, I'm very fascinated by WWII "memorabilia". Obviously, I don't own any flags and etc. since I'm not a neo-nazi and don't wanna be connected to this scum. But the uniforms and symbols are extrememly captivating. Of course, it's purely aesthetic in its nature.

Besides, it seems to me like a lot of people share this passion. You see a lot of influences in modern art, from popular culture to indie stuff. But since you mentioned it, it's not only WWII, I think it's wider defenition, although i dunno if "objects tied to terrible suffering" is such a good term. But I get what you mean.

I'm kinda like this too, but more with people. Especially to do with North Korea. Like, I find North Korean soldiers really sexy for some reason, but I feel sorry for their people. It's the forbiddenness and the mystery.

I think its fairly normal....I mean I own two large pieces of the Berlin wall that my uncle picked up off the ground himself. It's not abnormal to like owning pieces of history...
