Is it normal to love him so soon?

Since the beginning of high school I really liked this boy, I thought he was lovely and always wanted to be with him, and after about 2 years I found the courage to ask him out and he said no. So we remained friends and worked on becoming really close friends, I loved it, we always used to talk and sit by each other at school and stuff, i loved him to bits and we were always there for eachother and then after 2/3 years of being really close friends inside school we went to the cinema, and we went to each others houses and stuff, and after 1/2 weeks we decided to make a go of things and now we've been together for just over 6 weeks, and Ive already told him I love him a few times and he says it back but I'm not sure if he means it because he never says it to me first, what should I do? I want to keep on telling him I love him but I don't want him to be under pressure of having to say it back if he doesn't mean it, is it normal to be think like this?
