Is it normal to love cars from the "smog era" (1973-1983)

Smog era, Malaise Era, Disco Era, terrible 70's. Call it what you want, but i love the cars that came out at the time. they arent the most powerful, but I love the distinctive styling of them, and i am a proud owner of one (1981 imperial) just wondering, does anyone else here have a car they love from the Disco era?

They're cool, I think it is normal. My husband has a '64 Fairlane (I know, now what you're talking about, but still) and people offer to buy it off of him all of the time - and it's not even restored =/

Yes!!! And much earlier models, too. Anything after the 80's is crap. I refuse to own a vehicle that isn't made of metal. Its the dumbest thing I've ever seen, all these new cars that have obviously been in an accident, pieces crack off. Whole panels missing. Wtf!!! Gigantic plastic molded pieces, what garbage!!!!!!!!

Google old vs new Chevrolet crash. I thought old cars would be safer in a head on with a plastic car but the passenger cell in the new cars are much stronger.

Don't get me wrong cars from the 50s until the end of the 70s are my favourites too but don't assume they are safer.

Oh barnacles, ok I'll do it. I still want to set new cars on fire and see if they melt :)

i saw a corvette melt once! but they have been made of fiberglass since 1953. a early 90s model, i believe it was. still, the owner must have been pissed!

No, "Smog Era" was not something I just made up. Many car enthusiasts use the term on cars from this era, due to the government's pressure to install pollution control devices, like smog pumps and other emissions controls on cars. this was when they first showed up on cars.

I agree that power and quality control left a lot to be desired, but there is something interesting about many of the cars from this era. (Pintos, pacers, and vegas are still ugly)

i know there root of your "smog" it just like 90% of early 80's cars are ugly

I grew up riding in and love old mopars so I love old cars, dont get me wrong, just the pic and the smog part made me wince

If it had to be an 80's car, i prefer to see something sorta cooler, like an old diplomat AKA cop car, or maybe a gremlin, the coolest, qurky car from the 80's

i didn't say i liked all of them, or that they were my favorite cars
(the 69 Dodge charger Daytona and the 70 Chrysler 300 Hurst take that honor) there's just quite a few from that era i find interesting, especially some of the "personal luxury cars" (like the 81 imperial and the Lincoln Mark v ) and the "muscle" cars like the 77 AMC hornet amx and the 78 Dodge magnum.
