Is it normal to love british accents?

Why the hell do I love British accents so much? I don't understand if there's a psychological reason or WHAT, but I got into this alternative band called the Kooks, and their frontman is Luke Pritchard. He is extremely British and I'm usually not the kind of girl who falls in love with random celebrities, but he has kickass hair and his accent makes him ten times more attractive. My appreciation of him is bordering on a fetish. Any other girls out there who like British boys? Or is it just me?

I had American flatmates for 6 months, and all they did was complain about how I pronounced "mobile". Clearly it is "mo" followed by "bile", how does that become "mo-bull"??? Anyway they didn't seem to swoon at my upper-middle class accent particularly much. very opinionated people...
Anyway I find American accents on girls can sound incredibly piercingly high pitched, but moaning in pleasure I must say it is the best accent imaginable!
Also, they were from South Carolina.

Is it a well known "hick" area? Because they showed me a picture of their houses, and they saw them over skype occasionally, and they live in 5 or 6 bedroom detached houses that over here would cost at least £300,000...although they were into lil'wayne quite a bit...

Do you who sounds wonderful: Tom Hiddleston. Just watch him act natural in an interview and you see he's ridiculously charming. He's the charming British man stereotype.

That's so weird, but I know it to be true! My boyfriend is British and he really likes my accent, lol. I never really cared much about the British accent until I met him, but now I love it and I find myself sometimes thinking in Brit slang.

It's hard for us Brits to find an American lass tho :-(

Why's that? I mean, besides the distance? lol I met my boyfriend playing video games. We've been together for about a year, and he's been to see me 3 times, and in two weeks he'll be here for his fourth visit.

So yeah, maybe hard, but not impossible.

Normal, I know a few people that think they sound distinguished.

    Personally, I love Russian accents.

I think Adele's accent (when she's speaking, not when she's singing) is awful...

Maybe because it is a rarity in the US, it has that sense of exoticness.

Not surprising it's generally the opposite in the UK, people adore the American accent.

I read somewhere that Glasgow was chosen for international English usage in communications because of the universal appeal of their soft and gentle accent. Anyway - I like it.

It may be soft and gentle but it's not very easy for foreigners to understand. I used a clip from a comedy called "One Foot in the Grave" in class today and the scottish accent confounded them!

I love all sorts of accents too.

I love the Irish accent the most but I do really like the English accent too, plus the Scottish accent is similar to the Irish accent.

Scottish accent is similar to Northern Irish accent, Irish accent is unique. Sorry for being "that guy" but it bothered me for some reason :)

I am proud of my English accent.
I never used to be. Personally, I think it sounds quite common since I am from up north. But yeah, an English Language teacher taught me to be proud of it. Accents are the best. It's great we have a massive variety. If we all spoke one then yeah, wouldn't be too fun.

I love most of them, especially the southern accents. One thing that does annoy me though is how you say twat, you pronounce it "twot'' and it grinds my gears.

    • dappled

We like them. We're bombarded with Americana so international American has become unnoticeable but regional U.S. accents stand out. There were some great ones recorded by people here for the voice post.

That profile picture of yours is the same picture that I downloaded on my first "cool" phone three years ago (a shitty little slider) as a background and I'm pretty sure I have it still in one of my random picture files somewhere on this phone.

            Same exact one. True story.

I am British and here is some advice, if you are the soppy boy band type, (which I am definately not) go for one direction. If you are the older, sixties rock kind of person, go for David Bowie. Now there are many more examples, but you can find out for yourself, all I'm saying is, there are plenty of British fish in the sea :)
