Is it normal to love a guy like that ?

it happened at work,i became a friend with a coworker there, and i had this huge crush on him, we tell eachother everything with all the details,he was so good to me tht i thought he is maybe in love with me too,then after 2 years working together i stoped working there.then he simply said to me my wife is very jalous and i am asking you to not message me on any social networks of mine or try to call me or if you send me a message then dont joke like we joke with eachother in the office just make it formal and short. so i just agreed but it hurts so much and i still love him.so is tht reaction is normal for a guy who claim to be only your friend?
