Is it normal to love a family friend?

Ok, so I grew up with this guy who is almost 3 years older than me. I had a crush on him when I was little, but got over it for a few years. In the past year or two, I have completely fallen in love with him. He is sweet, funny, caring, country, and just all around my kind of guy. The problem is, I'm positive he will never love me back. He goes to the more "country" school across town where all the girls like him. He has a different girlfriend every couple of weeks, and recently got his drivers license. I'm just the younger family friend he grew up with that he probaly just considers as more of a younger sister, being an only child himself. I was always an extremely shy person, and only in the past year have I started becoming more social and stuff. I used to not talk to him much, but lately, if I see him, I do. I always look for him in our small town and extremely anticipate any time I might be around him. Now tell me, is it normal to love an older guy you grew up with that probaly doesn't love you back in that kind of way?

Yeah mine wasn't a family friend but he was my brothers best friend. He's 5 years older than me tho...and he moved to Texas when a couple years ago and currently lives in California I only see him once a year now...

Very, very normal and very, very painful. Hopefully it will fade in time and you can love the guy who's right for you!
