Is it normal to "lose track of time" when playing games on your phone?

So I've been talking to this guy and we both have already said that we liked each other and we're just unofficial. Last night at around midnight, he told me that he needed to go to sleep because he had to work early the next day. Then this morning, he said that he didn't sleep until 5am and he had to work at 8am because he apparently lost track of the time playing video games on his phone. Should I even believe him? WHO loses track of the time playing video games ON THE PHONE, honestly?
