Is it normal to lose the will to live?

Not in the negative sense that would involve some sort of self harm, but more in the, lose the reasoning in what you want to do with your life.
I've just lost the will to live/care about anything, just laying in bed not giving myself the energy to get up.(I'd rather not extend this post to its true length)

Please get some help, this sounds a lot like depression to me.

It might be odd, but I dislike my mind being altered by drugs, good or bad or even taking any medication for that matter.

I understand your point, but you don't necessarily need medication to treat depression. Depending on your reasons for depression, the circumstances and everything, things like cognitive behavioural therapy might work just as fine for you.

Drugs are not the only opinion. As qwerty said, look up other options like Cognitive Behavioural Therapy; it works just as well as drugs, if not better, in clinical trials and doesn't rely on being dependant on medication. If you do have depression, the last thing you should do about it is nothing at all.

I agree with all of the above. It's called detachment and indicates a psychological problem. You don't have to the drugs, and a psychologist can't prescribe them anyway, so get some help. Hope you feel better.

If you have bad depression, those drugs are worth it! I have bipolar disorder, and NEED my mind to be altered. There are medications you can get that don't have terrible side effects.

That's understandable, but if you don't then there is a good possibility that it could get worse. You don't want to live like this.

It is normal to get into a "funk" from time to time. If it lasts for more then 4 weeks, it may be helpful to seek professional help. Try getting out into sun, meditating, exercise, and talking to someone you trust.

I feel the same way I dont give a dam about anything. I try to live everyday like tomorrow didnt exist. I try to listen to upbeat music and sometimes it works. Sometimes I just wish I had someone to talk to though. Lol whatever.

I've noticed talking to people helps, if the music is loud of enough it blocks out all those depressive thoughts and can make you smile.

Try doing different things until you find some thing you like to do you could find a new hobby to occupy your time, something to look forward to. If you're lucky maybe even get a job that involves something you like. This might sound harsh but just sitting around all day isn't gonna do anything for you. You need to get up and find a passion. You
might even meet some friends that share a common interest.

I also recommend talking to a psychiatrist to help you find the holes in your life and fill them. Therapy might be scary to do because no one wants to have something 'wrong' with them but it really helped me when i was depressed.

I hope this helps and you learn to enjoy life.

I should say I don't sit around all day doing nothing, I'm in my third year of college doing creative multimedia. My exams start tomorrow and because I haven't technically passed my 2nd year(work exp is left) my extreme pessimism has kicked in and this has made me not care if I pass or fail. I also do have hobbies. I do notice that when I'm around people the "depression" isn't so bad but still present.

I feel the exact same way. Life is just one big dream and I'm waiting to wake up. Let me know if you find something that works.

  • Life is nothing fun. People would say "life isn't supposed to be fun", but who are they to say it isn't supposed to be fun?

Your writing was misleading. I was eager to find out the posite sense. :/
Start by exercising to get chemicals in your brain going. Your mind will follow.
