Is it normal to lose the plot during long movie battle scenes?

I find long battle scenes hard to follow and often can't keep track of which side is doing better. Sometimes the camera zooms in on a gory detail, but I'm unable to place it and after a while, it all seems to become a big blur of violence and I sort of lose my focus. IIN?

I don't know who posted this but I want to say thank you. I honestly thought I was the only one. I hate scenes like that because I just can't follow them. I get bored after 10 seconds because, to me, it's just random people shooting bows and arrows or guns. Some of the longer scenes like in Gladiator or Lord Of The Rings, I wondered, "Why are they dragging this out? I don't know what's going on". Maybe we've got battle-dyslexia.

It's okay if it's just two or three people having a gunfight, but when it's hundreds or thousands? Nope. I know I'm not going to get it so I'm tempted to fast-forward.

I presume that you are not supposed to know who is winning, it suppose that this is meant to increase the tension or something, but it does nothing for me. It's just 5 solid minutes of mindless violence.

I lose interest when there's too much action unless I'm really invested in the characters my mind just wonders off.

I guess it would be, maybe I'm weird being nerdtastic enough to follow the battle scenes. XD haha, one of my favorite authors is R. A. Salvatore, and he's well known for describing battle scenes in vivid detail.

A good action movie knows how to put the scenes usually depends on director and choreographer. If its a bad movie I do get lost. But a good one with smaller amounts of characters you shouldn't have a problem since most films are made so you can keep focus.

  • Reminds me of some video games. Tells me to go do something specific, 2 hours later I'm still killing shit in my way and I forgot what was the whole point of doing that specific thing.
