Is it normal to look ugly in most amateur photographs?

Basically, I had a look at my professionally-taken senior photos and I am very pleased.

And then I look at many of the recent photos of me taken with iPhone cameras, especially the iPhone 5 (good lord I could go on and on about how much I despise that cam...), and I look hideous: there is nothing lively about my face and my skin/eyes look like a zombie. Not to mention how smartphone cameras crush my face so that it looks elongated and make my eyes point outward like a fish.

That said, I see many people who take such great photos with smartphones, selfies or otherwise. I don't know how they do it: whenever I try, I always look like a humanoid fish...

So, do any of you feel this way? Is it normal to look super ugly in photos taken by phones?

    My shit fucked in the game perfetional or not I'm not photogenic at all iv always that pictures to b creepy.wen I look at pictures of dead Fam n shit I hav a eiry feeling the pic will move or wink at me or something sketchy like that

    Phones don't take the best quality pictures. Professional photographers have many advantages such as lighting , posing, quality etc.

    I wouldn't say ugly but photographs taken from smartphone looks kinda lifeless to me.

    Dunno about smartphones, but generally in photos - well I've learned not to look at photos of myself....ever.
    It destroys the fantasy I have in my head of what I look like.
