Is it normal to look for certain constellations in the night sky?

I was looking at the starry night sky and wondered if everyone else also looks for certain constellations when they do it. My eyes automatically search for the Southern Cross - or Crux - and then Orion's belt. When I find them I feel like I'm oriented and only then can I appreciate the infinity of the Universe.

I'm curious to know what anyone else looks for, if they do, if it's normal... I also wonder what it must be like to look at the sky and just see stars... or even the black blanket full of tiny holes covering the day to make night, as an elder once told me.

I love to see them. Identify same as howaminotmyself. Kind of comforting to know they have been there for millennia and will continue to do so long after we are all long forgotten about.

I am always excited to see a shooting star as well.

The infinity of space helps put some things into perspective.

I look for the big dipper, Orion's belt, north star, Cassiopeia , and the moon. Big beautiful full moon last night. :-

I always look for Orion's belt...it comforts me for some reason when I have a problem. If I can't find it, I just feel lost

Sometimes when I'm out for a smoke I find myself looking for Orion's belt, I'm not sure why.

I loved looking at the constellations. Just sit outside drink and smoke looking at the beautiful scenery. Now I stay in the city and barely see anything. Boo!

Good luch find Crux, unless you liv in the Florda keys. We can see it in Mexico, though, as well as the whole Milky Way, due to unpolluted skis and no lights. I also see the planets with my telescope.

But can you answer the question, 'why the night sky is black, when there are an almost innumerable "luminous" massenergy bodies in the Universe'?

Because the stars are far apart

This is true, but there are many, many stars, most of which we can't see with the naked eye. But when we look through a telescope, in every direction we see galaxy after galaxy full of stars. In fact, using the Hubble Space Telescope, we looked at a region of space which was the 'darkest' that we could find, and what did we see? More galaxies full of stars.
So why is the night sky dark, and not brilliant?

            Yes, it is a paradox.
It is one which is still perplexing modern science.
Our current cosmological model only partially solves this paradox, but creates other paradoxes.

            I have solved the paradox!

I`m always sorry to see Orion in the night sky because it`s a sign that summer`s nearly over.
