Is it normal to like your ex?

A year and a half ago I broke up with my boyfriend. The reason being that I was terrified of the love he showed me and the commitment I was facing.
About 6 months ago we started talking again. A couple months later we had dinner (which he paid for, but I don't know what to make of that)
Now, we hang out regularly and nearly every time he pays for dinner (again...help??)
Since getting to know him again, I remember all the habits and everything about him I love. I don't want to lose him as a friend, and I'm really scared that if I told him I have feelings for him he'll stop coming around.

I don't know, I've got a fried who always pays for the dinner, and he has strictly expressed several times he only wants to be friends with me.

It's hard to tell what someone is thinking he probably says he wants to be friends only so he can stay close to you when really he wants more but doesn't think he has a chance with you.

Eh, I guess I'll never know. But on the other hand, my new boyfriend doesn't pay for my dinner unless I'm short on cash :P

Let things go the way they are, and if he's interested in ANYTHING, whether it be commitment or sex, he will bring it up himself. It's absolutely normal to still like him, even love him. Hell, I am friends with benefits with my ex! For 8 months! And he knows I love him (apparently). We don't just do it either we cuddle and talk and watch tv, even been out to restaurants and forests and such. At first I even said no to fwbs but changed my mind a couple months later. So keep going to dinner with him and see where it goes! Even fwbs, I am so glad I changed my mind or I would have lost him even as a friend and really regret it.

I can't tell if you want him back or not. If not, let him get on with his life by getting out of it.
If you care for this fellow at all, talk to him and be honest. You two need to be on the same page. It just won't work if he wants one thing and you want another.
