Is it normal to like the smell of a hot iron (clothing iron) ?

Every morning when I was younger and still sleeping in my parents bed, my mom would wake up and iron our clothes right next to the bed where we were sleeping and I can just remember always loving the smell of the hot iron. I loved it so much that I used to want to taste it, lol. I also love the smell of gas and laundry lint. Can anybody relate?

well smell is tied into memory. i have never heard of anyone liking the smell of an iron before but im sure there are people who like different smells for one reason or another. maybe because the smell ties into a good memory.

i like the smell of winter, rain, fresh laundry, Christmas smells such as mint and baked goods.

Hmmm, yeah. But I have no pleasing memories about these smells though.

The smell of the hot iron and laundry lint are tied to the memory of your childhood; a repetitive routine intertwined at a point in which you felt safe and secure. So it's perfectly normal to love those smells.
    .
Secondly there is little standardization in smell/taste receptors. Everything you smell and taste will smell and taste slightly different to everyone else. The few smells that are universal, are smells related to your personal safety, i.e. the smell of rotting meat. Those types of smells have been genetically bred into us over time, to be found repulsive or alarming, to warn us at a biological level that our safety is at risk. However, there are no smells/flavors that are found to be universally pleasant or attracting. Pleasant/attractive smells are found to be linked to memory and to each individuals unique (taste/smell) receptor layout.
The one flavor/smell that would most likely be found pleasant to all, would be breast-milk, which people say tastes most like cantaloup. However, studies show that the like/dislike of the taste of cantaloup is at exactly 50%/50% among humans. Go figure.

I once knew a person who smelled like hot iron. Not sure if because she's Asian or because she straight ironed her hair... There is something quite appealing about that smell tho.

What does smelling like a hot iron have to do with being Asian? Lol.

I've noticed some Asians have very distinct scents, one of which was akin to the smell of hot iron.

Normal. People like certain smells. I like the way manga books smell especially brand new ones. I like to store them in the dark so that the new smell lasts for a few years.
