Is it normal to like someone but feel this way?

So, I like this guy who I have a couple of classes with. The thing is, when I'm not around him, I totally crush on him! I get butterflies just thinking about him. But, when I'm around him and talking face to face with him, I don't feel anything! I'm really confused and don't know if I like him or not. Have any of you experienced this?
