Is it normal to like interweb friends more than people in my area?

OK so, I have a few friends here in my area that I like a lot. Not many, but a few. But nobody asks me to hang out much. I've made a lot of friends online since I started using social networking sites. I've been friends with a girl from Indonesia for 4 years, and I've gotten to be friends with her sister and some of their friends. I plan on going there to visit someday, hopefully in 2012. And there are a few people in Texas I talk to a good bit, and a man in Italy I've known for a few years. I'm a 19 year old girl from Ohio. Also, I can usually sense if someone is genuinely nice or fake nice, so I'm not worried. The sad thing is none of them are physically close to me. :( is it normal to feel the way I do? anyone else feel this way?

    I'm sure some people are going to pass judgement on you but the way I see it; if you've found it difficult to make friends locally, you have two options. Either have no friends at all, or have friends that aren't local. Of those two, I'd say you picked the right option.

    Here's the thing. You don't choose the people who live close to you. But you choose who you are friends with on the Internet.

    100% normal.

    Same for me. I'm actually popular with ppl on the Internet haha:)

    thnx for commenting guys. i do have some friends here. i'm the same girl who posted the story about my crush who lied and said he's gay, so it would be easier to reject me. i still think about him, even though i know it won't go anywhere. his new gf is kind of a dumb bitch. his sister likes me, but it seems like she likes her bro's new gf, and maybe would prefer to have her as her sister-in-law.

    sorry that was so long, but yeah...i have some pals here who said they'll hangout with me soon, they're just busy a lot.

    Yeah, I don't like having too many 'internet friends' but I have a couple which I have a lot in common with.

    Just don't forget to seek out physical relationships too, even if they're not the best people you've ever met.

    some of my closest friends are on the web.
    talking about far distance they all live on the other side of earth and some locally~

    but yeah it is pretty normal ^^

    I have a really good internet friend. She travels a lot so we are rarely in the same city. Funny, I never really hung out with her until she left.

    Developing friend takes a lot of effort sometimes, and like most things it takes practice. But it is always worth it, when they become good friends. Make the effort, learn how to put yourself out there, it will be worth it for you in your near future and beyond!
