Is it normal to lie?

Everytime i talk to people i can't really tell the whole truth, perhaps because i'm ashamed or i want people to like me. Someone may ask: "how many beers did you have that evening" I know it just were 3, but i say it were 5 anyway in an effort to conform to the social norm. But it goes further, when someone asks me what i prefer and my preference goes against the norm. For example i like this crazy book or strange music, i'm afraid to admit it.

Telling small lies almost every sentence, it makes life so much easier at times (but sometimes not). My biggest fear is that others will find out.

Is this normal?

  • See I never understand why people feel the need to lie, even over stupid stuff. It's pointless and all it does is make you untrustworthy to the people around you.

I've done my share of stupid, pointless lies too. It's just causing you problems. Look at how anxious it's making you. When you can tell the truth, you'll be free and won't have all the worries lying brings.

Stop this lying and be who you are. Crazy book or strange music? Hell yeah, that's cool.

i'd say this behavior is normal but unacceptable. learn to be yourself. i wouldn't be able to handle you acting that way if you were my friend. sorry to say it.

once someone find out you in trouble
jst make sure you dnt lie about your car house or amount of money you have due to the fact that you will never let your friends come to your house because you might of said that it was a large mansion and it really a small basic house
but lie like ive had 6 beers tonight and you say yerh well ive had 10 beers but you really only had 1 or 2 that okay
and it's also okay to fake drunk etc if you do it gd

I hate when ppl do that ! people def. notice!! I dont see the reason for doing it ? ppl are suppost to accept you the way you are! you dont need to lie to make yourself look better !! In the end it makes you look worse.

Sorry Alaxett... forget about 'Karma' that is a belief. What goes around doesn't neccessarily come around.

Lie's are acceptable, but hotchickie81 is right, not everyone can see it the same way as you. People can go against you, even if they dont know what you're saying is false... even if they suspect it.

I make so called 'white' or small lies all of the time... not in every sentence.

I think its completely normal to want to 'fluff' things up a bit for excitements sake.

However, I will say... why hide yourself? If you're lying to cover up your personal tastes and preferences? Why bother... as above, the norm is so overrated these days... if anything, quirks and difference is not only accepted but encouraged!

I know that if I tried to cover up the things I liked, it'd probably make me very unhappy! So dont let it do that to you...

Find comfort in what you do and what you enjoy, it'll likely make you happier in your own existence!

Lying so that you are not made a target of is normal. The reason why you don't like it is because this feels like lying to yourself and you feel repressed by social norms a.k.a. "coolness".

My advice, tell the truth so you don't feel like this. False friends will no longer be in your social circle and those remaining will be your true friends with whom you can form meaningful relationships with. You might find that some share your opinions.

Also, I doubt alot of people are as cool as they want people to think they are simply because the list of criteria for being cool is so long that it seems very unlikely that a given person ticks all the boxes. Therefore, I most certainly don't think you're the only one.

The question is raised, is cool more repressive than cool?

I know how you feel. I am the same way. Though I will warn you: be careful. Others don't see it the same way as us, and think these little lies are bad...

Lie about how many beers you have? That's just stupid, and yes, everyone will go against you eventually, 'cause karma said so. Forget about what THEY think about you, why don't YOU just make yourself unique, accpet what you like and dislike? I meet alot of people with their own taste, opinion, and individuality that seem to be embarrassing and yet, everyone love them.

Norm is so overrated these day.
