Is it normal to laugh at funerals?

Okay, i honestly think this is not normal.

But, when i'm at a funeral, i can't stay serious..
I'm always laughing the way the priest sings, then look at the dead person's face, and they always seem kinda angry..
I just can't stop laughing when the priest sings..
And when crying people look at me laughing, it makes me feel like an as*hole..
When the funeral is over, i always regret that i done that, but the next time i always laugh.
IIN?

PS: i don't/won't laugh when family members die.

just a nervous habit/reaction. ever since she was a baby, my sister would burst out laughing whenever she got badly injured. when she broke her ankle and it swelled up to the size of a baseball she just looked at it and started laughing hysterically. also in really awkward quiet situations ppl just burst into laughter cause they are nervous. it's just how u deal with serious matters.

I think it's normal to laugh. Not sure it's normal that you attend so many funerals.

There is a condition called pseudobulbar affect(PBA)that has similar manifestation. It is attributed to brain injury and can be caused by a stroke. I have had neither, but have a similar problem. Occassionally when I am laughing really hard it turns into crying - not the "i laughed so hard I cried" type of crying, but sudden unexplained feeling of sadness. We are not "crazy." brains are complex and emotions are so closely linked. For example fear & excitement create the same physiological response.

I don't find death sad, or worth mourning. Cartainly no one I spend time with are the sorts of people would want their friends and family to waste a day crying over a 'lost life.'

People die everyday. The fact that some are worth mourning over, encasing in expensive teak boxes and burying in the ground (we're cutting forests so your mum can take up 4x9 of a manicured lawn?) is crazy to me.
Adding in a solemn, preaching guy and it all just seems like a show..

it's a nervous laugh some people usually during a inappropriate time my best advice is to try to control it or excuse yourself and go somewhere to get under control

sounds like nervous lafter and maybe deflection. Death is a hard thing to deal with. I agree with some of the others. Stay away from the funerals and just sign the guest book.

I have a friend that laughs when bad things happen to other people, is is a nervous reaction I think. Just put your head in your hands to disguise it I guess haha

  • Just laugh as loud as possible and if someone gives you shit just be like "I laugh so I don't cry, ya know?"

Of you can't manage your behavior at a funeral, sign the visitors book and stay away from the funeral. A good way to keep from laughing inappropriately is to pinch yourself discretely on the arm. I didn't learn that trick until I was 25. I sure could have used that trick earlier.

For me I've been in one funeral,I thought it wasn't normal to not cry for someone's death..I never cried when my grandma died last fall. Maybe we didn't have that much memories...

So disrespectful, if you can't keep it together and show some respect and compassion you should spair the true mourners the added insult of your laughing! As if they were not in enough pain already, and you do that?! Worse, you know you can't keep it together and you go anyway! You're lucky you've never attended one of my loved ones funerals! I'd knock your ass out!

My friend and I do this to the point we can't even set nest each other. I think it's some kind of nervous relief. Like when some old person tumbles down a flight of stairs AND IS HURT, I eventually laugh my ass off. And trust me: I'm a pretty nice guy. Just funny way of dealing with those situations
