Is it normal to keep this a secret?

i have this neighbor, my whole family knows him. they really like him. his wife was like my grandma, untill she passed. i visited their home many days for many years. uhm, he has this shed in his backyard. he works on his cars there. one day when i went back there with him, he had told me he would fix my pants for me. nothing was wrong with them, but i was around 7, so i didnt know what was up. then he took off his pants to. he said what he was gonna do would make me feel nice. long story short he raped me. i was young & i didnt know. when i realized what had happened, i couldn't tell my alcoholic mom & my dad loved the guy, how could i tell him?
now my boyfriend of 10 months knows. he thinks i need to tell someone else.
well, here i am. im telling you...
but if i told someone, a counsler, a parent, anyone who knew me. what would they do? my neighbor is around 80 and it was a while ago. theres no use.

Telling your mom or dad is optional. What you need to do though is see a counselor and process your feelings. Trauma like that can't just be buried or it will surface in other areas of your life. Who you tell is up to you; don't let this dwell inside you forever though. Processing it properly will suck and will be hard but you will come out a better and stronger person afterward.

I would go to counseling to talk to someone about it. Then you can make a better decision about what you should do. You wont find your answer here.

Even if you don't want to-tell your parents. You should have told your dad THEN, but you have a chance now. Please put him in prison before he rapes anyone else!

Talking about it doesn't really help. Tell a few people and leave it at that.
