Is it normal to judge someone by their names

When I see that someone has a trashy made up name with or a name with "unique" spelling, like Jadon > Jayden, Kimberly > Kimberleigh, emily > emilee, I can't help but think that they have uneducated parents. Is it normal?

There are some names that trigger that kind of response with me, but it's a lot less generic than a simple different spelling. "Leigh" added on to something isn't even a "unique" spelling, that's simply how it's spelled in some scenarios. I live near a "Leigh" street. That's completely normal.

That being said, I think it's a combination of name + other factors. If I meet someone who bobs their head around and says "like" every 3 words in a sentence, and their name is spelled "Quendra" and pronounced "Kendra" then yeah... I might be a little judgmental about how they're being raised.

This is an actual name: la-a

    Pronounced: laDASHa

And the mother was pissed at the school board because people couldn't pronounce her name properly

That has to be the dumbest name I have heard up to this point. Can you imagine growing up with that?

People have no class and believe everything is OK, my teeth cringe when I hear a retard say "well if it makes them happy then so be it"(corky voice)... I believe a name is the first unconscious representation of that person. Names like Henry III, Raphael, Micheal, and Samuel are perfect examaples of names that demand "respect" per se!!!

I had 5 guys on the same football team as me, with the same name. Every time one of them got yelled at we all came running! I wish my name wasn't so common!

I don't judge the person based on their name. I might judge their parents, though.

Like Gwyneth Paltrow naming her daughter "Apple".

This was her answer to why on Oprah in August 2004:

"Right, well, um, basically it was because when we were first pregnant, her daddy said, if it's, basically one day he just said if it's a girl I think her name should be Apple. And I just, it sounded so sweet, and it conjures such a lovely picture for me, you know apples are so sweet and they're wholesome, and it's biblical and it's just, they're so, and I just thought it sounded so lovely and ..."
Obviously, Gwyneth has no clue why she named her kid Apple, either.

Yes, it is. I suppose that's how society has raised us. I judge people if they have "cutie" nicknames, that are spelled different just because, in my mind, that means that they're trying too hard to be "unique." It's perfectly normal.

Indian people can easily be judged by their names. Most of the time it turns out to be correct. For the western world its a bit abnormal.

Being someone that has a strange name, I can not help but to question how someone is raised if they pass judgement on such things. Everyone comes from all different back grounds. It is normal for you to want to judge certain things, but why do you believe these things?

It's normal. People by Nature judge by the appearance of things rather than the internal qualities therein.

For example: If someone kills a Puppy, mass outrage ensues but no one cares if a Scorpion or Spider is massacred.

      That's incorrect use of 'massacre'.

The killing of one creature is not considered a 'massacre'.

I get you're probably using it for emotional effect, but yeah...not correct word.

Some of them are okay, but some are completely over the top. I especially don't like it when a name looks one way, but the parent pronounces it completely different. Also, really outlandish "ghetto names" are very annoying.

I like different spellings of common names. But some people make up names for their kids that sound totally pulled out of the air. I know a Keleigh and a Britaniegh, I like how their names are spelled unique. And I think Mollie looks better than Molly. That's the name of a girl I sorta know, and also my brother's cat lol

What's real ignorant is when parents name a kid Bill, Danny, Willie and shit like that instead of giving them the proper name and just calling them by the nickname. I'd venture the guess that many of them don't know the proper name that belongs to the nickname so it just seems so ignorant to me. I'd also think it wouldn't help in the business world.

All names are made up. Just some of them are more recently made up than others.

Each to their own really. When choosing names though I think that all names need to go in a pattern meaning to have a Winnie and a Chelsea in the same family is a bit daft to be honest. I believe that you should either have all modern all tradional or all unusual names not a mixture. One thing I will say though if anyone is given an unusual name I always have to know the story behind their name, but then I suppose we've all got a story behind our names. xx

Some names look better to certain people when spelled a certain way. Some made up names are over the top though.

Lol, I thought a few of those spellings looked better than the original ones you posted. :P Theres nothing wrong with not wanting your child to be the 5th Ashley or Brandon in their school. Dont give them a ridiculous name, but that doesnt mean you cant exercise your creativity.

But all the world needs is more drones to fill the workhouses, rite guise? ;P

    I actually find them interesting.

When I choose to have children I don't want to give them a common name.

Now I understand if it's something ridiculous like a pets name for an example. I then might think to myself do I want to get to know them. But it's best to not assume something until you actually know them and their family.

Yes I've met some people with long strange names and kinda wondered myself. But I also remember one girl from another high school who had a very interesting name, and when I heard her father talk I could tell he was well educated.

so you should meet the parents first.

If their name was KakaPeePeePooPoo Pants, then yeah, I'd be a little judgemental about how educated their parents were.

I will admit though, it's generally my more uneducated friends (high school drop outs usually, but some of them do have a diploma but not much else) that name their kids things like Jaykob, Aschlee, Jayydon, Ayydenn, you're kid is already boned enough being born to a single, uneducated slut, you're really going to make them stand out even more with a name that they won't be able to spell properly until their 8?

But I digress. Withhold judgement until you meet the parents. Maybe they are cool and educated and what not. Some people just don't have enough faith in their future children to trust that they won't need a unique name to stand out as unique individuals.
