Is it normal to judge people for being privileged?

I was reading an online article just now about how glorified quitting the 9-5 jobs to pursue an entrepreneurial venture is and how that notion implies that your are privileged enough to even have the means to do that, or a job to quit in the first place. The article seemed to stem from an angry and emotional place. I'm my own boss and the job I "quit" was an 8 hour job with benefits but I was fired. My partner didn't have a job and I was going crazy because I could never see my child or spend time with my family. I missed holidays and was barely getting by. I'm a lot better off and I definitely do not come from a place of privilege. I come from a place of poverty. I know it is easier to do these things with money and status but I don't think its entirely impossible. I thought her article was really insightful about how hard it is to be your own boss but I just felt that calling out the notion as putting down working class people or people of poverty was just kind of dumb. I don't think the way to get ahead is to put other people down, even if they deserve it. There is enough success for everyone! What do you think?

It is normal depending on the context. Some really don't deserve good opportunities, but there are also so many factors that weigh heavily in regards to many specific instances. Ultimately, some responsibility still lies on the person even when their back is against the wall, but I would like to believe that their is enough success to go around, you may just have to redefine what success means to you, or the person in question. Sometimes being privileged also tests the character of someone.

I completely agree. I think no matter what the circumstances are there is still some responsibility on the individual. There have been people all throughout the ages who have defied and gone beyond what was thought they could accomplish. Sometimes it takes decades and sometimes it doesn't. No matter where your life is you're going to have challenging times. That's just life. :P

Yes, certainly. Now, more than ever, it is also easier to succeed at least in the sense of our ability to receive opportunities such as financial aid for college and student loans. Personally, I think the bigger issue is lack of knowledge in regards to the resources available. Most of whom aren't aware of the steps we have in place for our lives to make things easier for all of us to develop ourselves and lives tend to feel overwhelmed and that is where negativity and the urge to feel like giving up comes into play even moreso than arguably any other generation or period of time. As long as you can get through high school, you can pretty much get college paid for if you're in poverty.

I can't really form and honest opinion or accurately judge any of this since I have not read the article in question. I think people can't help what they're born into as far as whether someone is born into privilege, poverty, working class, middle class, upper middle class or whatever. I think it's silly to judge people what they're born into, but I do think it's appropriate to judge a person's actions on moral grounds as to how they treat others and conduct themselves. I don't think that everyone is cut out to be their own boss, some people are just more comfortable working a regular hourly or salary job than being their own boss regardless of whether or not they're earning a lot or a little money. I think it's quite admirable that you are a entrepreneur, but I also think it ain't easy. Just do yo thang, be grateful and be proud of yourself!

I agree. I don't think its fair to judge those born into it but it is unfair to judge others just because of where they are in life. I think there's absolutely nothing demeaning about a corporate job or not being your own boss. It personally isn't for me but there is something to be said about being able to leave work at work after clocking out. Also when you're contracting, clients can be very irrational and expect the model corporations have built, which adds a different element of difficulty because you usually don't have the finances to deal with expensive ordeals but you still want to do everything you can. They each have their own benefits and drawbacks but the good thing is is that there are a lot of choices so everyone gets to do what they want! xD

I don't think I'm driven enough to be my own boss.
