Is it normal to joke about a toddler being sexually molested?

My mother keeps telling what she thinks is a joke about my four year old son. He's into dancing and singing and he's polite and sweet. He even looks like an angel, with big blue eyes and little gold curls. Anyway, my mother will "joke" that he's attractive to child molesters (how my mother would know what's attractive to a child molester is another problem entirely). She does this in front of me, him, and my other two children. It makes me sick to my stomach to think of, but when I tried to tell her that, she got mad, started screaming and crying and told me she didn't care.

Am I totally off, here? Is it normal to think that your child being molested is funny? Am I being unreasonable for not wanting to hear it and not thinking it's funny?

you're normal..that's not something to joke about. your mom wouldn't think it was funny if the kid actually got molested.

That is not something that normal people joke about. Child molestation is not funny. Your mom is not right, but I'm more worried about your comment about how she would know what a molester likes.

I'm not sure how you took it, but what I'd meant was to say that, to my knowledge, my mom is neither a child molester, nor was she molested as a child.

As a matter of fact, my mother doesn't appear to have any sense at all of what a child predator is looking for in a victim. I don't know, but I'm pretty sure that my life wouldn't be as messed up as it is if my mother could somehow sprout that awareness on behalf of children in her care (if you catch my drift).
