Is it normal to ignore washing programmes, and mix different fabrics?

My girlfriend says it doesent matter what the cycle is, and it doesent matter if you mix fabrics, e.g. cottons and synthetics, i say there must be some science and difference to the cycles, and you shouldnt mix up fabrics.

She says no one else will agree with me.......?

I know I wouldn't waste my time separating fabrics. I just wash whites separate and keep the water on cold.

Your clothes might end up lasting longer or looking better if you separate them though, but I still won't go through the trouble unless I care a lot about the item.

Yep. I do the same thing. The only difference is if something is really dark, I don't wash it with anything really light.
