Is it normal to ignore friends sometimes to prove i'm not clingy

Sometimes when I meet someone I'm afraid they will think I'm too clingy or emotionally attached to them so one day I might be talking to them 24/7 and the next day I will deliberately ignore them and might not talk to them again for a whole week. I just want to show them that while we might have talked and pretended to be friends I'm not clingy or emotionally attached to them.

Great, so then they think you're a distant asshole.

Although its not too similar but often I've been doing this.. not to show them that I'm not clingy but to show my own self where I stand in their life... their have been situations when I felt that they are ignoring me or not considering my presence just because I'm always their and there's nothing special .. so at this stage I avoid them and start being alone... and in my heart I'm waiting and watching ,who cares... twice or thrice have I done this.. and luckily my friends followed me ,asked me , and took me back...
but I don't consider it right to be practiced daily or even often.... because it can drive your friends away from you but its normal...
according to some sensible people they also say you should keep a balance in relations ... you don't have to be with them 24/7 but whatever time you give to them you should be very sincere and good..

That's about as clever as hammering a nail into your palm on purpose.

How are your friends taking this? To some extent I've been doing this too but differently. Since sometime last year, I've been slowly distancing myself from my friends. Some I haven't talked to in months, others in years. I don't know how this makes them feel. I don't do this to prove that I'm not clingy. I do this for many different reasons. I don't seem to "fit" with them. I find some of them to be incredibly immature or have ideals/behaviours that I don't agree with. I don't want to be bothered with them.

  • You are one of those people that would probably shoot yourself in the foot just to prove a point if the situation came about.

"Shoot myself in the foot to make a point i can't prove, to get, back to you. That's just my signature move."

      Do do do...
