Is it normal to hurt yourself in your sleep?

For several nights in a row now, I've woken up and found myself in the act of hurting myself. At first, it was just things like I would be slapping my hand but recently, they have been really bad. Once, I woke up and I had a butchers knife pressed fo my throat. I've also jammed my hand in a car door and almost jumped off of my balcony. IIN?

It sounds like a disorder where during REM sleep, instead of your body being paralyzed (which is normal so you don't hurt yourself) you start acting out your dreams

You seem to have this to a extreme. I can relate to a extent. I used to be a cutter. I've gotten help meds therapy all that good stuff that sometimes works and sometimes doesn't. I have had several occasions of times when my meds aren't quite right for me or I'm under crazy stress I've kinda come to from sleep hacking at my upper thigh ( my old favorite spot) with a sharp object I've managed to sleep walk and aquire. So I guess its normal as in your not alone in having done something like this but rather or not its healthy is another story. Please get help before you seriously hurt yourself.

  • if this isnt a troll its a hard case of paralysics. What dreams do you have ? Usually its nightmares. You try to hurt urself BECAUSE of the lucid dreaming coming from sleep paralysics.... If its not a troll what dreams did you have ?

I would get a friend or relative to move in with you for a few days to watch you, or film yourself.

I agree with this. My husband is a light sleeper due to my occasional middle of the night" adventures".
